The privilege of supporting a broad range of ministry

My most interesting experience:
Studying at the Danish Handcraft Guild in Copenhagen

My iPod favorites:
I enjoy a wide range of music, from instrumental classical all the way to Southern Gospel and Contemporary Christian artists.

My hobbies:
Visiting grandchildren, knitting, reading, quilting, counted thread embroidery, piano, e-mail and Internet groups associated with the preceding

My favorite Bible verses:
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed (2 Corinthians 4:7-9).

My favorite thing about working at College Church:
I enjoy working with a wonderful, caring staff, and I love seeing in action the passion and heart of ministry here at CWC.

My most interesting experience:
Our family stayed alone two separate weeks in a huge sixteenth century, 35-bedroom castle with secret gardens, tunnels, a ballroom, great hall, huge dining hall, beautiful chapel, library and fully equipped modern kitchen.

The grounds were complete with a huge entry gate, livestock, extensive trails by the river, fishing by the weir, a public tea house with a professional chef, a walled garden with wonderful tours of greenhouse and extensive gardens and fountains, and gift shop with handmade exquisite crafts, local books and plants and seeds for sale. The hallways were decorated with armor from the movie First Knight and authentic artifacts as well.

It was spooky to be there alone at night but the public and workers would be there during the day. While cooking one evening I set off the smoke alarms and the workers living on the property had to come and help me turn it off. I would have evening coffee under the huge trees in the back and feel like I was in heaven.

My family includes:
Mike, my husband, (I can see his office window at IWU's new communications building from mine); Josh, my ministry-minded son, his amazing wife, Shelly, and my precious, active grandchildren, Noah, Zoe, and Ephram living in Grand Rapids; and Geoffrey, my music-on-the-brain son, a freshman at IWU.

My iPod favorites:
I love all kinds of music but really enjoy Motown, Jazz, and Blues. Stevie Wonder always makes me smile.

My favorite Bible verse:
Praise the Lord and forget not all of His benefits . . . (Psalms 103)

My favorite thing about working at College Church:
The staff and the fabulous working enviroment they have created to make serving my church and and my Savior fun.

My most interesting experience:
Eating the best Chinese food around in Spain, learning to scuba dive even though I can barely swim, being a leader in the Air Force at the tender age of 22, becoming a mother and realizing the responsibility of having a child, taking 27 8th graders to Washington DC to experience history, hiking the Grand Canyon when I was 41 instead of 21, building a house without a contractor, witnessing a buffalo round-up. . . . All of these activities have stirred me, so I guess I'd have to say being an adult is my most interesting experience.

My family includes:
My husband Matt, and my three daughters: Amy, Sarah, and Anne Marie. We also have a schizophrenic maltese named Grissom.

My iPod favorites:
Stephen Curtis Chapman, Celine Dion, Jack Richey, Mark Shultz, Anita Baker and a smattering of many other christian, country, and oldies (60s-80s) artists.

My hobbies:
Traveling anywhere, visiting zoos, organizing my family, cooking and eating chocolate desserts.

My favorite Bible verse/s:
The entire book of Psalms because there is a verse applicable to every season, every day of my life.

My favorite thing about working at College Church:
Lots of things. I think we have some of the best people—staff and congregation—of anywhere in the Church. College Church is a body of people—servants, scholars, leaders, students and friends—that act like a family. That's who we are today, but wait until you see our potential!

My most interesting experience:
Sorry! I don't write these stories, I tell them. And there are too many to tell here. :-)

My family includes:
I've been married for over 25 years and have two kids, a son and a daughter. My wife is my closest friend; my kids are my greatest joy; my family is my greatest support.

My iPod favorites:
ColdPlay; U2; Boston; Eagles; Pink Floyd; Rolling Stones; Steely Dan; REO Speedwagon . . . and if it will make me seem more spiritual to you: Bill Gaither and Silver Bullet Band! :-)

My hobbies:
Most sports: playing and watching; but the older I get, more watching. Go Michigan!

My favorite thing about working at College Church:
First, is just the privilege of serving Christ in The Church. Being at CWC is a blessing because of the people and the wonderful blend of community and campus.

My most interesting experience:
Teaching on a ship while sailing around the world.

My hobbies:

My favorite Bible verse:
Promise given at my call to ministry: To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me. I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 1:27-2:3).

Dan Swartz Graphic Designer
dan.swartz@collegewes.com

My favorite thing about working at College Church:
Working for a wide variety of ministries designing a wide variety of materials. Each ministry has its own flavor and its exciting trying to sync a design with the visions of different staff members. My most interesting experience:

My hobbies:
Finishing my masters degree. Ocassionally sleeping.

My favorite Bible verse:
But what happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchardthings like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely (Galatians 5:22-23 MSG).

Ben Westfall Technical director

Jackie White Office manager
jackie.white@collegewes.com

My favorite thing about working at College Church:
I love the staff with whom I work! They are dedicated, caring, fun and great examples of Christ.

My most interesting experience:
Giving congressional testimony while directing a program called Foster Grandparents (Michigan). Because our programs were federally funded, three representatives (including myself) provided argument for the cause of our programs. It was an excellent learning experience professionally, but also a memorable experience spiritually, as God met with me during those moments in a unique and powerful way.

My family includes:
My husband, Lonny, and I have four grandsons; two of whom live in Marion and the other two in Michigan. I also have the most wonderful niece and nephew who I love more than life itself!

My iPod favorites:
Hard rock, smooth jazz, peaceful instrumentals, but absolutely no country or opera

My hobbies:
My heart is most content when I am serving others. I was reminded a year ago during some of Pastor Steve's sermons, of how frequently Christ served food. Since I love to cook anyway, making and serving food took on a whole new meaning for me. Such a joy. I also love looking a magazines, planning events, and of course, what is life without shopping?

My favorite Bible verse:
Picking a favorite Bible verse is a lot like saying what you like most about God. Suffice it to say, God has been gracious and kind enough, over the past few years, to reveal Himself to me through His Word on many occasions. I guess one of my "bedrock" verses would be: "The one thing I want from God, the thing I seek most of all, is the privilege of meditating in his Temple, living in his presence every day of my life, delighting in his incomparable perfections and glory. There I'll be when troubles come. He will hide me" (Psalm 27:4, 5a).
